Video Comments ![]() I dont think yorkshires ever made it to air though? ![]() The incoming ITC in 1990 intended that the 'ITV' brand name would disappear - the franchises running from 1993 were specifically advertised as 'Channel 3' franchies without ITV mentioned.
However, the big players within ITV (except Yorkshire-Tyne Tees) didn't want to do this, leaving Yorkshire and Tyne Tees as the only regions to ever use the '3' branding (although the Yorkshire variation was nowhere near as extensive as Tyne Tees). ![]() This was on Grand Theft Auto 1 on the radio in the cars I remember ![]() Apparently Bruce Gyngell was going to do away with Yorkshire TV and Yorkshire logo but decided that the YTV chevron had to much history and respect chickened out. Pity current itv knobs in charge didnt feel the same way. They were stupid to get rid of the Tyne Tees name. Mind you what would itv have looked like now if Bruce had taken over all the regions. ![]() Interestingly Sky News also used a variation of the same tune around the same time that Tyne Tees were using it! ![]() Bruce Gyngell, the bloke in charge of Yorkshire-Tyne Tees in the mid 90s, decided to go it alone with the Channel 3 thing. He thought the rest of the ITV network would follow suit. Not surprisingly it didn't. Tyne Tees was used as the guinea pig in the summer of 1996 and a huge relaunch was done. Tyne Tees even poached Mike Neville back from the BBC after 32 years. Fortunately Mike hung around a lot longer than the ident which bit the dust after a year. ![]() It was just a yorkshire / tyne tees thing. This is cos Yorkshire had control of tyne tees. ![]() Being born in 1991 I don't quite understand. Was ITV trying to rebrand as Channel 3 or was it just Tyne Tees and Yorkshire? :S I can understand why ITV would want to rebrand as Channel 3 as there was Channel 4 and BBC ONE and TWO were referred to as 1 and 2 e.g. "Now on 1 the nine O'clock News with Michael Buerk" ![]() Even though they spelled the beginning of the end for Tyne Tees, I quite liked them too. I think the jingle must have been library music because one of the radio stations on the game Grand Theft Auto had the short version on it. ![]() I actually thought there were OK, and professional, shame it said Channel 3 on it though! |
