Description: An ILS landing into Lindbergh Field using an autopilot approach in a 737. It is hard to see what I am doing, so I am providing a time line of my actions. I do not offer this as the proper way to do anything, it is just how I did it in this video. 00:05 Opened the GPS, press NRST - scrolled to the correct airport(outer knob) - ENT - scrolled to freq page(inner knob) - scrolled to ILS freq (outer knob) - ENT - hold CLR to return to map. This finds and auto tunes the NAV1 standby frequency to the ILS frequency. 00:27 Toggled the standby NAV1 frequency to active. The aircraft is now able to receive the ILS information for the correct runway. 00:50 Changed heading, altitude, and speed values in the autopilot. 02:00 Lowered a few degrees of flaps as the aircraft slowed. 02:10 Pressed APP to engage the approach hold. 02:40 Aircraft automatically turned to line up with localizer. 03:50 Lowered Landing gear, slowed to 180kt and lowered flaps to 25 degrees. 04:35 Aircraft automatically started the decent as it intercepted the glide slope. 04:53 Turned off autothrottle. I manually controlled throttle setting from here on out. 06:09 Turned off command autopilot at 300 ft AGL. The rest of the flight was hand flown. 06:38 Touchdown. I raised flaps and deployed spoilers. I used wheel brakes to slow the aircraft down.

You don't have to put it anywhere. When you put the heading into Course it makes it easier to read the ILS. The heading is just telling you in which direction the runway goes so that you know how to approach the ILS

when exactly do you press APP approach hold. Is this done when when you are alighned with the runway of what?
I am just wondering, when you set up an ILS/landing, I see for a runway there is a ILS frequency and heading. I understand that you put the frequency in Nav1 buy where do you put the ILS heading, in the heading or the course?

u deffinitily dont press app as soon as you take off. you press it at around 25-30 nm out...

( sorry, any ponce can see by your Username- Manchester, that your across the pond!) great to chat. do you use charts? they can really expand the Realism and fun of simming. I had to teach myself from some books and other reading, and even "trial by fire" to interpret, but once acquired, wouldn't do without. Cheers!

on the Plates, upper-left top, will be the Mag.Rwy Approach course. exmp: rwy 24, could be 244 degree's, etc... that's what you have to enter (scroll) into your HSI or VOR instrument to see acurate rwy and Localizer guidance. i also understand you can get the rwy.course from inside the FSX Fllight Planner, but you have to Pause your flight, and go into the Map, and click on the Airport. i don't usually do this, i enter my flight with all paperwork in hand, just like in the real world.
I am just using a Stock HP comp. 512 mem. Nvidia GeForce 7600 Vid Card, 4 gigs Ram, 2.6 gig Processor, Dual-Core......hmmm what else. that's about it. I have the CH Products Yoke and Rudder Pedals, and the New TRACK IR v4 PRo should be arriving at my door ( just ordered it!) by tommorow. really excited about that one! heard it's bar-none, the best add-on you can use in FSX. did you understand about the Rwy Magnetic Course info i explained. if not, i'll offer more help.

often, the actual magnetic runway course heading is slightly different than just the Rwy Number. for instance, rwy 24, might be 244 degree's. or rwy 8, might actually be 083 degree's. understand? the reason is, the FAA designated rwy Numbers are "approximate" values in Magnetic Degree's. i believe they can be "rounded Off" to within about 10 degree's. Ok, all that said, you aren't going to find the true rwy course number to set in your HSI, in the GPS. you must use approach plates(see next)

sorry for the late reply. U press the app button after you takeoff, until you press the nav button. This is on IFR flights tho, Instrument flight rules.

ok so at 30nm away from airport press nav button but at about how many nm do u press app? thanks m8
You press the nav button normally, about 30nm away, or when you are on final.(for an ILS landing) The app button is used for IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) flights between Climbout and Descent. It is the button that guides the plane from beacon-to-beacon. If that didnt make sense, pretty much its the APP button that guides the plane to the destination in midflight.
