Fastpitch Softball Drop Curve Change

Which one is the easiest to spot? There are two different pitches in the video. That's the point of adding the change with the exact same motion and release as the curve.If you think it is a drop curve(60mph) but it is actually a drop curve change(40mph)the hitter is toast.

Not to mention the easiest to spot by the hitter. BTW just about every breaking ball in fast pitch is telegraphed the pitcher, whether its a rec ball pitcher or a seasoned travel ball pitcher to Yes, Osterman, Finch and Fernandez. Period! As a hitting coach I spend a considerable amount of time on pitch recognition, and just about all of my students can work the pitcher as if she were a soft tossing.

thats a beautiful pitch. i catch and this is the kinda thing that like gets me really excited. lol. a girl i used to catch for awhile ago threw something similar but no where near as good.

Isn't a drop curve change also called a triple. The girl I catch throws that.

our high school pitcher throws this and gets batters all the time. this is how she gets most of her strike outs.

The number came from a Juggs radar gun. A backhand change like this one is supposed to be at least 25% slower. In this case it is 33 %. Nothing arbitrary about it. A backhand or flip change takes considerably more speed off than most other types of change ups. Most people don't throw the backhand because it is the most difficult to master.

Right...a change...is usually 8-10 mph slower than a fastball...any slower than than and the arm action probably slows down and the batter can guess the pith...I think 20 was an arbitrary number that you picked without thinking...

It is a change up. That's why it's called a drop-curve CHANGE. It is consistently 20 mph or more slower.

It's more or less a change up but let's be honest here, that's not 20 mph slower...nice pitch however

Great pitch. I would call it a Slider...it moves like a baseball pitch that, "slides off the table".

Wow! She has definitely got her pitches down. Her arm stays tight next to her body enabling her to get on top of the ball and drive it downward.

that pitch is nasty... i play men's fastpitch and when i seen that it fooled me...
