Turbine take tremendous amounts of volume of steam at very high pressure. This engine does not need certified boilers because it runs on low pressure steam.
I'm impressed by this design. I've only built simple steam engines as a kid, but this thing is radically different than anything I've experienced. There are a lot of people who could use simple engines in remote places that can be switched to various fuels to pump water or provide electricity.
Steam or compressed air running a turbine made right is about 10 times more efficient and more power. Just build a mini turbine.
I would suggest ceramic containers with high refractive content. Look on the web.
I am thinking one average size lens from a old big screen tv to heat maybe two gallons of salt for a engine of yours size. I wonder where I might get containers that could withstand the heat from the lens. One lense burns through brick.
Multiple cylinders take the place of double acting cylinders less the crosshead and the stuffing box which has side forces. The reciprocating mass is many times less than the old engines and the heat loss is way less. My engine doesn't use lubricant that fowls the boiler. The distilled water is after it has produced power. The distilled water direct from the boiler has produced no rotary power.
Many people are using solar for this engine. The salt idea is a very good idea. The lense would need to be fairly large.
What about using solar to create steam and maybe a tank of molten salt(500 to 1100 degrees) to power the engine after the sun goes down? This coupled with Charles Shults frennel lense solar collector may be a plan for home electricity generation.
Glass (pyrex)
Interesting design. Though I think you should compare it with traditional double-acting steam engine designs, which also don't put side loads on the pistons, and get two power strokes out of each revolution, unlike your single-acting design which only produces power half the time. Also, to say that the exhaust is distilled water means nothing, because the exhaust that matters comes from the boiler and not the engine, and that could be burning practically anything from coal to hydrogen.
What's the material of the cylinders in the three cylinder engine?
Yes, considerably more efficient because it eliminates side forces that cause friction and reduces the number of bearings and moving parts.
Several flex shaft manufacturers.
Of course, that's it's main application.
Sorry, that would violate the laws of thermodynamics and the law of conservation of energy. It would be nice, but impossible.
Hi! I have a point!!! aaaaa.... if you use the generator to boil the water, you just made a second kind of perpetual motion
None of these engines are fastened to anything and they are very lightweight.
what about all that vibration? It looks like it could shake all over the place violently!
excellent designs I think its a "swash-plate" desigh engine, the russians were going to build a Land Speed record car based on a similar design of petrol engine I wish you every success especially as it steam cheers keith
Thanks for your comments. I haven't tried this but it sounds interesting.
This GREEN MACHINE is epic! Any research on combusting hydrogen into pressure and water vapor?
I bought a paint pot after your plans arrived. The paint pot idea looks great and your plans even better!
Yes, I found a paint pot on sale and decided to go back and get a second one. Sweet way to go.
A pressure paint pot works well, or you can make a water tube boiler from copper tubing.
