Thinking and Praying are the same thing. If you have any questions about anything ( inside of you or outside of you ) just keep repeating the question and an answer will appear out of the blue. Don't let graven images ( gravely serious fears ) stop you, and don't believe that life is vain and worthless, and asking questions while relaxed may work best. There are many ways to ask questions: record the question on your ipod and play it in replay, use doodling, look in a mirror. Scientists do this.

I am wanting to gain more insight about Buddhism, but i pretty much have no idea about it. Any tips from anyone about finding a local gathering?

You will notice that your mind is not easy to control. If your wanders away from the breathing, bring it back to the beathing. You need to do this again n again n again... When you do it for long period on time, your mind will calm down become concentrated. Then you can fix your mind on the beathing without wandering away from short time to long period of time. This is what we call concentration. There are 3 stages of concentration.

There are many technics in meditation. The 1 I Find easy to do is meditation on the breathing. Here is how to do it properly: 1. find a suitable place that is quiet, least distraction possible. 2. sit in comfortable posture (cross leg or diamond posture), Set your body upright. 3. Establish mindfuless in front close your eyes then watch your beathing. 4. when you beathe in or out, long or short, just be aware that you are breathing in or out long or short. Just do that.

deathtobill5, U don't have to wear anything unless you need to become a monk. There are 2 basic things U need to do. 1st accept the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Shanga as your life guidance what we call take refuge in the triple Gem. Then U need to observe the 5 basic moral disciplines called the 5 precepts which I hope U know. If U have a shrine in your home, do some chanting in morning or evening then do meditation, start slowly from 5/10 minutes then increas as U progress.

yes, christianity can achieve that aswell. so can watching a squirrel gathering up nuts for the winter. so can having a traumatic experience. so can watching an episode of the simpsons. the difference between all these things and buddhism is that buddhism's only goal and purpose is to improve people's ability to understand themselves and the world around them, making them a better person. none of the other things have this as their sole purpose. ESPECIALLY christianity.

im with you there, its teachings seem to make so much more sense than any other religion, rather than saying avoid this avoid that, do this and you be rewarded in the next life, it tells you to go through those bad patches and look foreward to the next good patch and to get on with other people rather than avoiding them altogether
