They're also mostly illegal. I support media freedom as much as the next person, but by downloading fansubs you make the mainstream industry less profitable, which means that fewer titles get aired on TV or make it into stores. This makes it harder for Anime to be taken seriously.

Fansubs are god.

Unfortunately most American audiences reject foreign language productions out of hand. You need the dub to make the sub commercially viable.

Disney are idiots... this film shouldn't have been dubbed in the first place. Dubs ruin everything.

Actually, it's pretty much true. Neo-cons have protested against Totoro for multiple reasons, especially the bath scene. Many would have liked to have seen it cut from the Disney dub altogether.
